TuneIn has over 120,000 streaming radio stations, and the now playing screen is the place where users spend the most time in the app. To help our users discover relevant content on the screen, we came up with the idea of building the "Other Stations" button across TuneIn's major content verticals. The challenge was the limited engineering resources given to this project; therefore, we decided to reuse view models we had built in the past.
A user can tap on the button located at the bottom of the now playing screen that opens a view showing other stations related to the content the user is listening to. The label of the button depends on the type of content. Also, the view will be different for a podcast listener, showing a list of the most recent episodes, instead of providing other podcasts.
By swiping left, users can find their recent stations without leaving the now playing screen. By swiping right, users can discover a collection of relevant stations in different genres based on their interest.
I made a user journey video to walk through a user's day with this new feature. Creating a user journey video is a method I often use to ensure a new function considers all aspects of a user's needs.
During the process of developing this new feature, I created a series of prototypes to support the team's user-testing sessions, to explore layouts and interactions, and to communicate ideas with other teams.
